The causes and impact; mitigation and adaptation
"Climate change threatens the basic elements of life for people around the world – access to water, food production, health, and use of land and the environment."
Stern Review The Economics of Climate Change, 2006
Whatever its causes, global climate change is already beginning to affect us all. Unpredictable weather patterns, including failed rains and floods, are already affecting livelihoods and food security. The UN estimates that more refugees are now displaced by environmental disasters than by war – more than 25 million climate refugees – and experts have projected that this will double within the next five years. The school garden is not only a practical solution to adaptation and mitigation, but gives children a real understanding of the delicate relationship between humans and natural processes such as the weather and seasons.
